"My Competitor Is Already Selling Your Product" — Here's What We Did Instead

Sep 21, 2026

A real conversation with an Armenian distributor, one market conflict, and a simple fix that changed everything.

How It Started

Dan, an LED headlight distributor in Armenia, sent us a photo of his competitor's product list. The M10 Pro was on it — the same model he was planning to order from us.

His message was direct:

"Did you see the list? I want to send you money today to speed things up."

Before he paid, we asked one question:

"You found it in the local market — is he your competitor?"

"Yes."

We did not process the order. We had a different conversation first.

Why We Said: Don't Order the Same Product

Vardan and his competitor operate in the same city, selling to the same customers. If both stores stocked the identical M10 Pro — same spec, same appearance — customers would compare on price alone. No differentiation, no margin, no advantage.

We told him honestly:

"I think not same with your competitor will be better."

Same core performance. Different product identity. That was the direction.

The Solution: Same Specs, Different Back Cover Color

The M10 Pro internal configuration — chip, power output, lumen rating — stayed exactly the same. What we changed was the back cover color.

Dan's competitor was selling the standard version. We showed Dan the M10 Pro in gold — a metallic finish that looks visually distinct on the shelf, in product photos, and on the installed bulb.

His response:

"Yes of course, this color is more suitable."

The gold back cover meant his product looked different from his competitor's at a glance. Same performance specs. No direct visual overlap at the point of sale.

The Broader Point

If you are a distributor and you know a competitor is sourcing from the same supply chain, the time to differentiate is before you place the order — not after the products are already on both shelves.

A back cover color change is one of the lowest-cost, fastest ways to create visual separation. Combined with custom packaging or logo, it becomes a fully distinct product line your competitor cannot directly copy-list.

We raise this conversation proactively because we would rather help you protect your market than fill an order that creates a problem for you six months later.

Beyond housing-color modification, our complete product line supports appearance, chip, power, logo and packaging customisation. We can help you create visually-distinct goods before mass production, so you can stay away from cut-throat price competition with local rivals
